Our Federation

The Saskatchewan Team Handball Federation (STHF) is the non-profit provincial sports organization responsible for the administration, promotion and development of team handball in Saskatchewan. It is governed by an elected volunteer Board of Directors. It employs one full-time staff person who serves as Executive & Technical Director. The STHF receives funding through the Saskatchewan Lotteries Corporation and Sask Sport Incorporated.  Additional funding is received through membership fees, program fees, fundraising and sponsorship.

Our History

It all started when Julius Fodor, Canadian Men's National Team Head Coach instructed a clinic at the University of Regina Cougars Coaches Clinic in October 1973.  Many interested physical education students and teachers attended the clinic and were impressed by the game.  On November 18, 1973, the Saskatchewan Team Handball Federation was incorporated to administer and develop the sport in the province.  In the spring of 1974, the STHF sent three teams to Canadian Championships in Winnipeg; a senior men's and women's team and a junior men's team.

In 1975 the Regina Team Handball League was established and was originally comprised of eight men's teams.  1975 was also the first year that the STHF hosted the Senior Provincial Championships.  In the summer of 1975 team handball made it's debut at the Western Canada Summer Games, at that time their was only a senior men's category.  In 1976 the STHF hosted the first Heritage Team Handball Tournament.  In 1987 the STHF hosted the first Youth (High School) Provincial Championships.  In 1997 the STHF hosted it's first Mini Team Handball Festival.
